Lead and Copper Participants Needed

We Are Looking For Participants for Water Samples

SCBWA Population Is Growing!

The State College Borough Water Authority (SCBWA) has grown from a medium system designation to a large water system designation. The population in our service area has grown prompting the designation change. Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection determines the system size base on population. With the new designation comes more lead and copper sampling requirements. While past lead and copper sampling results do not indicate a lead and copper issue SCBWA is required to conduct additional sampling because of the change in system size designation. It is important to note we do not have lead in our source waters.

The new requirements SCBWA must sample seventy (70) households on two different occasions. The first round will begin in July and the second round six months later. The criteria we are looking for: single family structure houses with copper piping inside the home, optimum year the house was built would be between 1983 and 1991 others will be considered.

If interested in participating with the lead and copper sampling please check to see if you have copper water lines and what year the house was built. You can contact John Butts at 814-571-4590 if you believe you meet the above requirements. We would like to have the sampling sites selected by the end of May.

We will deliver all bottles for the samples and pick them up after the sample has been collected. The sample must be the first draw of the day. If selected you will receive instructions closer to when the sample will be drawn. SCBWA will provide the results of your sample to you approximately one month after the sample has been collected.
